The Battle Fairy? I kind of like that name, actually. I swoop in to teach people how to not die... but what's my payment, if I'm the fighting version of the tooth fairy? I can't take teeth, that'd be gross.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Yeah, we can start with reloading! It's not as hard as you'd think, it's just nerve-wracking the first time you have to do it in a combat situation. You'll get used to it, though.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Uh huh. Well, to be honest, we're rapidly running out of ammo. You might want to learn how to use a crossbow anyway, just in case we run out before the end of the mission.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

That was a terrible joke.

[ and yet she's grinning at her blackglass. ]

No, it's fine, though. I'm stronger and faster than humans, my senses are better, and as long as I keep up a good diet of human blood my body functions exactly as a human's does.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Before you get scared for your arteries, I drink from blood bags. Mothership provides them for me.

FROM: No teeth! That's gross. And what would I even do with them? Make some kind of gross teeth necklace? Ew.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Oh my gosh, no, I don't need any kind of repayment! I was totally joking. I like helping other people learn how to defend themselves, it makes me feel like I'm doing my job as a green properly.

[ green team is the team that protects the crew -- but part of protecting people is making sure they have the resources to protect themselves first. elena takes this responsibility very seriously -- maybe too seriously, honestly. when she really has to confront the fact that she can't save anyone... it's not going to be a good day. ]

Well, crossbows aren't as popular and we can make more ammo for them. All you need is a sturdy piece of wood, some whittling skills, and a sharp rock to attach to the end and bam.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

You've got an arrow.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Nope, not joking. I find that being upfront about it tends to end better than hiding it, but I did that too for the first couple months. Everyone's been so cool about it here I don't anymore.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

Id actually prefer not to answer those kinds of questions, sorry. Where I come from vampires are hunted and hated and its only a matter of time before someone who takes offense to my species shows up.

FROM: gilbert.elena@cdc.org

The fewer people who know what I'm vulnerable to the better.

But I can tell you that I don't turn into a bat, and I don't sparkle. You saw me out in the sun before, did I sparkle then?
